Sketchbook Recap No. 1

It’s always such a good feeling filling an entire sketchbook, so I thought it would be fun to start sharing my favorite pages when that time comes.

This particular sketchbook was pretty small. I worked in it from September through the first few days of January 2022.

 
 

The mini pages were less intimidating and usually only took about 15 minutes to an hour to finish. It’s also super portable. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to go back to a regular sketchbook…

I’ll start my recap with a few of my favorite pages. There was a good amount of variety when a came to materials (sharpies, highlighters, posca pens, watercolor, and ink to name a few), but not so much in subject matter…

Speaking of themes, I also drew a lot of patterns:

It was cool to see how they evolved from September through the end of the year. For my next sketchbook, I’m going to keep better track of the dates and going in order so I can track my progress.

I normally work in a designated travel sketchbook any time I leave Arizona. Whether I’m trying to take everything in, or just killing time, a sketchbook is probably my number one travel item.

Unfortunately, I forgot it on our latest trip to Portugal. I still had this one though, so here are a few pages from Lisbon:
